Consumption Choice: We are deciding whether or not to take a taxi from the East Side of Manhattan to the West Side of Manhattan.

As conscious consumers, we would consider the following impacts of our taxi ride on:

  • The environment:
    • Impact 1: The greenhouse gases or emissions from the gas pipe that contribute to Global Warming or other negative environmental issues.
    • Impact 2: Taxis pollute our water systems when gasoline comes out the exhaust pipe and pours into our rivers.
  • Our personal health:
    • Impact 1: this adds on to factor of being lazy and can make you less prone to exercises.
    • Impact 2:this can contribute to the release of pollution from the taxi.
  • The well-being of those who are impacted by our consumption:
    • Impact 1: This could led to people breathing in Toxic chemicals in the atmosphere.
    • Impact 2: Also, This can lead to dangerous traffic.

We imagine the following alternatives that would fulfill the same purpose as our taxi ride without some of the negative impacts:

AlternativeNegative Impacts Avoided
Bicycling Fossil and Greenhouses emissions
WalkingBecoming Lazy

In our lives today, these alternatives may or may not be possible.  Here is an explanation of how achievable these alternatives are, and what barriers exist to choosing these alternatives:
