What was you thinking about your first Seminar?

The thoughts going through my haed were initially blatent. The topic of immigration is a hot one. However, I feel feel a little skeptical. Why are we today so interested about narratives instead of analysis of facts? In the "Chilidren of the Sea" I questioned both the motive and trueness of the narrative. Am I being manipulated by the sentimental aspect of the series of the letters or journals?

I find it extremely compelling that America owes its continued existence to those who were forced to immigrate to our country. Today's discussion of immigration has left me with the impression that immigrants not only have a story to tell, but also should be viewed in a different light. Probably one the most interesting question raised in the discussion was "Why are people willing to fight or contribute to a country that deny them benefits or rights? My mind thinks of the Civil War and Hell's Kitchen.
