I have had very good success by having students visit memorials and public art in NYC. My students really enjoyed a tour of the East Harlem murals, which we studied in relation to getrification in NYC. Also in East Harlem, students can visit the graffiti hall of fame. Feel free to use my guide for an East Harlem Tour: East Harlem Tour.docx

This past summer 2017, I did one of the free tours of Bushwick Street Art, and it was great. If setting a tour for your students, they will charge though. Here is the Info: http://www.freetoursbyfoot.com/new-york-tours/walking-tours/new-york-graffiti-and-street-art-tours/

Here is a list of museums that are free for CUNY students: MoMA & MoMA PS 1, The Frick, The City of New York Museum, El Museo del Barrio, The Whitney, and The Jewish Museum. CUNY is constantly negotiating with different arts institutions. Please check: http://www1.cuny.edu/sites/cuny-arts/

NOTE: WHEN TAKING STUDENTS TO MUSEUMS (EVEN IF FREE ONES), DO NOT GO IN AS A CLASS AND DO NOT LECTURE TO YOUR STUDENTS. OTHERWISE, YOU WILL MOST LIKELY HAVE TO PAY A GROUP FEE.

KEEP IN MIND THAT SOME STUDENTS MIGHT HAVE CLASS BEFORE OR AFTER YOUR CLASS, SO YOU WILL HAVE TO PLAN ACCORDINGLY.
