Again this year, I was struck by how comfortable the students felt at MoMA versus the Met. Undoubtedly, the spaces are very different, and the space plays a large part in how one experiences a museum, but I can't help but wonder if their level of comfort has to do with the fact that we have been looking at, describing, and analyzing art for two weeks at this point.

 

The second week of class we spend one day discussing the museum as an institution and the employees that work there and another day discussing the relation to art to history as well as the concepts of aesthetics, beauty, and taste.
