"Write to understand:" (up to 30 minutes)

 

1. Choose one of your notes and copy it just as you wrote it. Expand and extend it until you have a paragraph in which you explore the idea more, from different angles or in greater depth.

 

2. Pick one of the following symbols (or another you have noted in your reading of Ch. 4-6) and "go with it:"

--light and dark

--cat

--pickle dish

--cold, snow, freezing weather

  • find and copy at least two instances of that symbol that you found in Ch. 4-6
  • make a bulleted list of what you think Edith Wharton is trying to convey through that symbol

When you're finished, proofread, spellcheck and submit to LASC Digication EN 214.
